With only 4 days to turn around a bid with many specialty requirements, MAC pulled from its unique multiplatform and cross-industry expertise to put together a successful bid that very few other companies would be able to. Mid Atlantic Contracting’s knowledge of tower design, specialty foundations and limited space work practices made them an unparalleled candidate. The project included the demolition and reconstruction of an existing tower and the structural upgrade of another existing tower in a 20 foot by 20 foot National Park Service property on the waterfront of Baltimore. MAC also rebuilt and refurbished light structures while installing new lighting around the base. MAC chose the foundation solution for the unique space and situational constraints. Helical piles were used in the erecting of the reconstructed tower with a large concrete mat foundation. MAC crews also managed the installation and testing of the helical piles. Every extra precaution was taken to control runoff exposure to the harbor and protect the National Park Service’s land and natural vegetation. All of this was completed within very tight space limitations with limited access restricted by the bordering property and harbor. The new towers operate as navigational beacons for boats coming through the channel. MAC is extremely proud of the quality of work from this project.
